London Street Photography Workshops

My street photography workshops cater to photographers of all levels. They are not scripted and there is no pre-set agenda, instead, they are tailored to your level of experience, interests and goals. They are more like a friendly exchange of ideas than a class. I am a firm believer in learning-by-making (learning should be relevant and practical, not just passive and theoretical) so we will spend the entire time on the street, taking photos, reviewing and discussing them.

Some of the topics we can cover include:

  • street photography techniques
  • styles of street photography
  • how to overcome fear of photographing people
  • training your eyes to see
  • composition
  • optimal camera settings
  • abstract techniques like multiple-exposure or intentional camera movement

Preparing for Your Workshop

  • check the weather forecast and dress appropriately (workshops run rain or shine with the exception of extreme weather)
  • wear comfortable shoes
  • ensure your camera battery is fully charged (bring extra batteries if you have them)
  • bring empty memory cards (format them prior to use in the camera you are using)
  • you should know the basics of operating your camera (any digital camera including mobile phones is ideal)

On your workshop day we'll meet at the designated meeting point where we'll briefly get to know each other, then head out onto the streets to explore the neighbourhood.

During your workshop we'll move at a pace you are comfortable with. If you'd like to spend more time in an area, we can. If you'd like to move on to another area, that's fine too. If you'd like a break, we can stop at a cafe for refreshments.

After your workshop we'll find a cafe where we can enjoy some refreshments while we review and discuss the photographs we've taken.

Private workshops (2 people maximum) cost £150 for a 5 hour workshop. Longer workshops or larger groups can also be arranged.

Recent Reviews

"We were impressed and absolutely ecstatic to participate in the Photography Workshop led by Leanne Staples and Joshua Evan in London over the Christmas holidays. My wife and I travelled to Europe for the holidays and we both decided to experience street photography in London. Leanne and Josh made our experience the highlight of our trip with their teaching professionalism and dedication to the art of street photography and helping and guiding us through the turf. They knew the intricate and challenging layout of London streets to show us the best places to work at street photography. Both are true professionals at street photography and helped us feel comfortable during the two days of shooting." Review by Paul R, New York City, USA (December 2017)

"After my first two workshops with Leanne in New York in September 2017, I was delighted when she announced in her newsletter (which, by the way, is a MUST to subscribe and read!) that she would offer a workshop in London together with Joshua Evan shortly before Christmas. There were no second thoughts - I booked and met Leanne and Josh in London. Once again, it has been a fantastic experience to explore a city together with Leanne and Josh and practice street photography techniques. I highly recommend Leanne and also Josh in London for any street photography enthusiasts in general, and for all FUJIFILM photographers in particular. Josh - I am looking forward to meeting you again in March 2018 in London." Review by Jutta G, Hanau, Germany (December 2017)
